A Meeting with “Dziecinada: It Was, It Is, It Will Be” – Coming to Wrocław in just one month!

The Foundation for the Support of Alternative and Ecological Cultures / Teatr Klinika Lalek and Strefa Kultury Wrocław invite you to a special encounter with “Dziecinada.” The year 2024 is a transitional one – the festival team is taking a breather to focus on preparations for the upcoming 11th edition, which will take place in September 2025. Still, the organizers aren’t leaving their loyal fans without a dose of cultural excitement.

On 4th anf 5th of October 2024, a unique and intimate performance by the Spanish puppet master Javier Aranda – “Vida” (“Life”) – will take place at Firlej in Wrocław. The show will be presented three times, as part of this year’s special edition titled “Dziecinada: Was, Is, Will Be”.

“Vida” is a wordless theatrical performance – a “Poetic Dance of Life” set inside a simple sewing basket. It is a world where two hands become an entire universe, and the basket holds the secrets of existence. In this magical dimension, “Vida” is born – a non-verbal performance that invites the audience to reflect on the fragility and beauty of life.

Javier Aranda uses only two hands and the contents of a sewing basket to tell a story about the relentless and unstoppable passage of time. These hands become characters – beings endowed with personality – that create movement, emotions, and life. From the basket, like a traveler’s chest, emerges new life – precious, unique, and unrepeatable. The performance tells the story of birth, growing up, reproduction, and death of these characters, becoming a metaphor for our own lives that continuously move forward, with no possibility of turning back. “Vida” is not just a show, but a journey through a labyrinth of emotions, where joy blends with sadness, and hope with inevitability. It is an invitation to contemplate the passing of time and to celebrate every moment of life.

The creator, Javier Aranda, is an actor and puppeteer, a graduate of the Theatre School in Zaragoza. For over 20 years, he has collaborated with many theatres, including Teatro del Temple, Arbolé Theatre, Gayarre Theatre, and the Drama Centre of Aragón. His work is not only about acting and puppetry but also a laboratory-like exploration of the relationship between puppeteer and puppet.

That’s not all “Dziecinada: Was, Is, Will Be” will join forces with the Young Horizons Festival, seeking common ground between the languages of theatre and film. The program includes a theatre performance, a film screening, theatrical animations, and an intergenerational discussion all taking place at the New Horizons Cinema.
