Miss Ophelia, based on the picture book Ophelia’s Shadow Theater by Michael Ende, is a performance full of playfulness and light, lots and lots of objects, and even more shadows.
Ophelia is going to be a great actress who will travel the world, or at least that is what her parents want for her. In order to prepare her, Ophelia’s father reads to her all the great stories and plays. Unfortunately, her voice is so soft that becoming an actress is out of the question. She finds work as a prompter in a small theatre. After many years, the theatre is forced to close its doors and Ophelia, by now an old woman, is out of work, penniless and alone. One day, she comes upon a shadow that says it belongs to no one. Ophelia consents to take the shadow under her wing. Somehow more and more shadows start arriving, all asking if she will take them in. And then trouble begins…
The show travelled to Ireland, Schotland, England, Malta,United States, Australia and China and is getting rave reviews.

Het Filiaal theatermakers is a professional theatre company for families and elementary schoolchildren. Our home base is the Dutch city of Utrecht in The Netherlands. Our work encompasses theater productions for large and small venues, theatrical concerts and site-specific theater. Meticulously prepared art projects for schools accompany all of our shows. The projects are designed to give children a comprehensive introduction to every facet of theatre and invite them to explore their own creative potential. The artistic team consists of artistic director Monique Corvers and composer Gábor Tarján. In their work they bring together professional actors, musicians and visual artists. The dynamism, precision and sense of humor with which poetic text, new music, acting and striking visuals are integrated, has come to be the trademark of the company. Our productions are performed throughout the Netherlands and all over the world. From Sydney to Shanghai and from New York to Rome. Shows such as The Great Illusionist, Miss Ophelia, Falling Dreams, Baron Rabinovits and Captain Lindbergh’s Ocean Flight have enjoyed extensive international touring and have garnered unanimous praise from both audiences and the press.
