Open-air theatre performance during the 11th edition of the “Dziecinada” Festival – the full program revealed!

This September, Wrocław will once again become the capital of theatre for the youngest audiences. As part of the International Festival of Theatre for Children “Dziecinada” an open-air day is planned for September 13th in the picturesque grounds of OPT Zamek in Leśnica. Visitors can look forward to performances, workshops, animations, concerts, and meetings – a full day of creative fun in the open air.

The eleventh edition of the festival will take place from 10th to 14th of September. Events will be held at Impart Centrum, Firlej, and the Academy of Theatre Arts, while the much-loved open-air day is scheduled for September 13 in the green space of OPT Zamek.

“During the 11th edition of “Dziecinada”, we will draw closer to nature – a quiet companion whose presence we often forget. We will also explore relationships – with ourselves, with others, and with the world – aiming to show children that diversity does not divide us but enriches us”, says Wiktoria Wiktorczyk, the festival’s artistic director.

This year’s “Dziecinada” promises to be especially impressive. The audience will have the chance to see performances recognized and valued worldwide. “It is a great joy for us to invite to Wrocław artists whose shows we have admired for years and wanted to present to our audience” adds Wiktoria Wiktorczyk.

We will immerse ourselves in nature not only through the themes and aesthetics of the performances but also quite literally. For the first time, the open-air day of “Dziecinada” will take place at the green, castle-like setting of Leśnica. The square at 1 Świętojańska will be filled with performances, workshops, animations, concerts, lectures, and meetings, offering attractions for the whole family. It is a wonderful opportunity for creative fun outdoors, for both children and adults.

During the open-air day, we will host the Mountain Spirit from the Karkonosze Mountains, who will invite everyone to his wedding with Emma – a water nymph from the Bystrzyca River. Two cross-country skiers from the Czech Republic – Bratři v Tricku – will appear, lost on the map and in the season. There will also be a glittery, disco-inspired acrobatic show by the Spanish group Cie.Paki Paya. Together, we will sing about nature with the band Ptaszkowie śpiewali meet the friendly dinosaur Teo during a performance by Lufcik na Korbkę Theatre, and hear a wide range of musical styles performed by the group Małe Cienie. In corners of the open-air space, we will also encounter the unassuming acrobat duo from Belgium – Ludo & Arsené – who will roam “Dziecinada” with a ladder in hand, surprising audiences with mini-performances in unexpected places. There will also be workshops, animations, and play areas. Meetings and discussions will take place – not only about theatre but also about relationships with the most demanding audience in the world – children.

“Tarabumba Circus” to close the open-air day – a free performance in Leśnicki Park

To end the day, Klinika Lalek Theatre will take the audience on a magical journey with the extraordinary outdoor performance, “Tarabumba Circus”. This is an unusual theatrical spectacle inspired by the traditions of circus art. The show emphasizes respect for all sentient living beings, using the beauty of puppet theatre as an alternative to animal suffering. The event will take place outside the main festival area, in the western part of Leśnicki Park, at 7:00 PM. Admission is free.

“Dziecinada on the Road” sets off in July on a theatrical journey across Lower Silesia

Following the old tradition of traveling theaters, “Dziecinada” will also appear in several smaller towns across Lower Silesia with a mobile edition of the festival called “Dziecinada on the Road”. In cooperation with various organizations, we invite you to performances in places where access to theater is often limited.

The first event will take place on July 5 at Stacja Wolimierz. It will be a wonderful opportunity for families to celebrate the start of the summer holidays. The play “Socrates in the Sandbox” is a joyful, musical performance inviting everyone to play and talk about any topic. The puppet characters Sophia and Philo sit in a sandbox discussing Love, Anger, Courage and Fear, Fun and Boredom, Children and Adults. Their conversation inspires family discussions that awaken curiosity about the world, encourage asking questions, and help to better understand ourselves.

This is just the beginning of the “Dziecinada on the Road” series. Information about upcoming events will be published at dziecinada.wroclaw.pl.
